Daddy was far from stingy when it came to shelling out the $5 or $10 for a heat sheet, and boy was he possessive of this piece of swim meet gold.

Immediately, he’d mark up the heat sheet – highlighting my events, Joelle’s events and all of our friends’ events, regardless of whether or not they were on Dolphin Club. He’d jot down a master itinerary on the front of the heat sheet (as you see here), and only then could Joelle and I Sharpie our events onto our hands. From that point forward, that stapled pack did not leave his hands. Intense as ever, he’d wear two stopwatches around his neck to time each of us. As you can see, he diligently marked down each our our times!
